Backyard Stories is an exhibition that traces the intimate intersections and connections in relation to how people shoulder multiple identities in the contemporary society. The exhibition is called “Backyard Stories” because a standard house includes the front yard, the interior, and the backyard. If the owner has meticulously decorated the front yard for strangers passing by, then who gets invited into the house as a guest or even to the backyard for some appreciative activities will ultimately depend on the owner’s personal preference. The artists in this exhibition combine a visual sensibility with images, colliding between their self-conscious and their surroundings, to produce a theatrical tension that transforms comfort or discomfort into stylish practices. Through studies of tradition and new mediums, young artists project their celebration of choices and particularity with freshness and momentum.
